October 2010
I started a new painting in the garbage series, this time in a whole new direction. California and Oregon struck a huge chord in me... I haven't painted landscapes in decades - this was a real challenge. A delicious, mouth watering challenge. This first painting drove me mad, forced me to ignore friends and family and made me dizzy several times, but it felt great doing something new.
I had diner and drinks with my dear friend Bonnie at Terrier Tribeca. I haven't seen her in a year and much time was spent furiously catching up. After dinner, we walked back to her place, which is right next door to Park 51. I did not see any terrorist training going on. I did see a bored and tired looking cop, though.
This October, Aaron went to Prospect Park and gathered hundreds of acorns. He brought them home and began the long process of turning it into flour. Pictured above is step one: put the acorns in water to see if any of them have grubs inside. If they float, there's a grub.
After soaking, re-soaking, re-re-soaking, grinding and soaking... He made a little pancake. It was pretty good!
He's quite mad of course, but when everything collapses, acorn pancaking skills will come in handy. Probably.
I got to look after my friend Thomas's cats while he was out of town! It was so nice to be around vigorous young cats for a change. I love my Edith dearly, but she's an old lady...
